You can choose between the two operation modes;

With multiple security levels, you can use AES, TKIP and 128/64bit encryption for each connected client device simultaneously. It will also allow you to restrict access from devices connecting with WEP to other devices connecting with AES or TKIP. You can use TKIP/AES encryptions for your PCs and WEP encryption for a gaming console simultaneously, but if someone tries to access the network using WEP encyption (which is the weakest encryption) they cannot access other devices connected via AES/TKIP.
